Small Business Saturday, a day of shopping locally at small businesses, will take place on Saturday, Nov. 28. Sponsored by Lompoc Valley Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau in partnership with American Express, local businesses are invited to join in celebrating the community, as well as taking advantage of the shopping season.

Amber Wilson, CEO of the Lompoc Valley Chamber of Commerce, said this year’s Small Business Saturday takes on greater importance as many businesses are already struggling because of closures earlier this year.

“This time of year is when many businesses make the majority of their annual sales. With sales down because of the pandemic, a lot of hopes will be pinned to the holiday season,” Wilson said.

Small Business Saturday is one way to promote a shopping influx for the local economy. Businesses host special sales or promotions, while shoppers are encouraged download a map of participating businesses, shop and have their map validated, and turn it in for a chance to win some goodies.

To participate:

Businesses host a special promotion on the day of the event—whether that means having a sale, offering a gift with purchase, or a similar promotion—and validate maps for

shoppers. Businesses also donate a gift certificate or merchandise to add to the Shop Lompoc gift bags that will be raffled off to shoppers, with winners selected from the returned maps.

To sign up, visit lompoc.com/shop-lompoc-shop-small.html. The fee is $25 for Chamber members and $35 for non-members. The fees are used to offset the costs associated with the advertising and promotion of the event.

Shoppers are encouraged to download a map (available online Nov. 24) and then visit six participating businesses to have the maps validated (no purchase necessary). Shoppers can then take a photo of their validated map and email it to Shelly@Lompoc.com or post it on Facebook or Instagram and tag @LompocValleyChamber for a chance to win a Shop Lompoc gift bag full of local swag.

All businesses within the Lompoc Valley, including Mission Hills and Vandenberg Village are invited to participate. Deadline to register is Nov. 18. Payment and gift bag donations must be received by this date for businesses to be included on the maps, no exceptions!
