Much of the North American International Auto Show is back this year, with a summertime extravaganza instead of the usual winter celebration of the auto industry.

The popular auto show kicks off with media day on Wednesday, Sept. 14, held at the Huntington Place convention center in Detroit. It opens to the public on Saturday, Sept. 17.

The auto show, which had been cancelled in recent years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, runs from Sept. 14-25 and one main highlight is that it will be an indoor-outdoor event. Along with the media day, the industry insiders days are Sept. 14-15.

“This year’s auto show plays a vitally important role in promoting emerging technologies particularly in the EV space,” said Detroit Auto Show Executive Director Rod Alberts in a statement. “And, as the first auto show of the season and with the release of new models in the fall, we expect the show to be a pivotal player in consumers’ vehicle shopping and purchase decisions.”

The black tie charity preview event also returns, held on Friday, Sept. 16, at Huntington Place. Organizers will tout the downtown restaurants and bars as another part of the celebratory night in Detroit.

Tickets, costing $400 apiece or $700 for a pair, go on sale July 11.

“We are thrilled to bring back our much-anticipated and longstanding Charity Preview,” said Detroit Auto Show Chairman Joe Lunghamer in a statement. “The event is a very important night of giving in Detroit, but it also sets the stage for the Public Show that brings thousands of visitors downtown and generates incredible economic impact for our community.”

Updated information about the auto show will arrive at naias.org.
