Police: Two shot inside O’Reilly Auto Parts on Berlin turnpike - Eyewitness News 3

NEWINGTON, Conn. (WFSB) - State police said they responded to assist Newington police regarding a shooting inside O’Reilly Auto Parts on the Berlin Turnpike.

A portion of the road was closed off while police investigated.

Police say a male entered the store just before 6pm and shot two victims, a male and a female, who were employees for O’Reilly Auto Parts.

The victims were transported to Hartford Hospital.

Their condition is unknown at this time.

Eyewitnesses saw the moment officers arrived on scene.

“I wanted to know what happened, I thought something crazy happened,” said Tyler Galvan, Berlin. “They had snipers, riot shields, all that stuff.”

It was an intense scene, with dozens of cop cars from surrounding towns and multiple drones looking for the suspect who was on the loose.

Hartford, West Hartford, Bristol, and Berlin Police assisted.

The suspect was caught and taken into custody around 8:45pm on Coronado Drive after calls came in from people in the neighborhood.

“It shook up the whole neighborhood because we are a quiet neighborhood here. We’ve never had anything like this happen.”

Neighbors in that condo complex say he knocked on a couple residents doors before the cops were called.

“I thought to myself, what if I was home and opened the door and this happened to me. I probably would have panicked and probably wouldn’t have done the right thing,” said Tanya Okumura, Newington.
