Schaumburg firefighters said the fire department was notified shortly before 6 a.m., with a report of flames coming from the roof.
The fire was brought under control in 15 to 20 minutes, but extensive overhaul work followed. The last crews left around 9 a.m.
There were no injuries. The building was unoccupied at the time.
Firefighters said the structure of the auto body shop is unstable and is being evaluated by the village's building department.
