BBAA hosts Matthews Auto Bearcats Golf Classic - Binghamton University Athletics

VESTAL, N.Y.—The Binghamton Bearcats Athletic Association (BBAA) hosted its 31st annual Matthews Auto Bearcats Golf Classic at The Links at Hiawatha Landing on Thursday. The event was first held in 1990 but was canceled last year due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The goal of the Matthew's Auto Bearcat Golf Classic was to raise money for the Athletic Department's General Scholarship Fund and 188 golfers took part in this year's event. Since 2016, the Matthew's Auto Bearcats Golf Classic has raised over $251,000.

The support was just as solid this year in terms of corporate partners, with 38 organizations sponsoring the event. In addition to Matthews Auto as the title sponsor, other major sponsors included, Binghamton University Dining Services, Harding Brooks Insurance Agency, VISIONS Federal Credit Union, Hinman, Howard & Kattell, BSN Sports, Mirabito-Gresham Insurance, Huff Ice Cream and Broome Bituminous.

In the morning session, which had a Captain and Crew format, the winning score of 57 (-15) was turned in by the team of Paul Huff, Chris Ciesla, E.J. Folli, and Mike Folli. The afternoon session had a Texas Scramble format and the winning quartet was Tom Harding, Corey Taylor, Danny Harding and Mike Yannuzzi with a score of 119 (-25).

"The Matthews Auto Bearcats Golf Classic has always been more than a fund-raising event," said Assistant AD-Corporate Partnerships Brian Jester. "We are absolutely thrilled with the continued success of our tournament hosted by The Links at Hiawatha Landing; we are deeply grateful to our incredible business partners, the hundreds of participating golfers and each of the volunteers for their continued support, allegiance and loyalty."

Founded in 1991, the BBAA is the philanthropic support group made up of alumni, parents, friends, community members, teams, coaches and students who have a deep interest in Binghamton University and its Athletics program. Binghamton University has long been proud of its student-athletes and their many accomplishments – whether they were competing as Colonials or as Bearcats.

The BBAA allows the Athletics Department to provide scholarships to student-athletes, state-of-the-art training equipment, facility and equipment enhancements and funding for the VISIONS FCU Center for Student-Athlete Excellence that supports our student-athletes' academic pursuits.
