The supermarket has been running a popular promotion where customers can earn 'knife credits' and get their hands on free chef-quality knives by shopping at Coles, with the deal set to end on January 26.

She wrote: 'I was hoping to get my hands on a small knife as I only had 19 points.

'But there were no small ones left, so I had to be smart and was able to get 16 more points by doing three separate transactions to include brands with bonus credits.'

Aubrey added: 'Lucky most of what I bought was on special and something that we need. My receipts are posted if anyone wants ideas on what to get.

'I hope it helps to get you closer to the points needed to get the knife you want as I heard they are quite awesome, but dangerously sharp!'

Customers can score one of six knives for free once they reach 20, 30 or 35 credits.

A small knife costs 20 credits, while a bread knife will set you back 30 credits and a large knife costs 35 credits.

Hundreds who saw the woman's receipts and shopping were impressed with the trick, saying it is 'such smart shopping'.

'I didn't know there were bonus points, wow,' one woman said.

'I've got 16 points too and want a knife, thank you so much for this,' another said.

A third wrote: 'I got this one and the small one. They are amazingly sharp! Better then my Japanese knife that cost me $80-$90'.

While there are just a few days left to earn credits, shoppers still have until February 9 to redeem them for free knives.

Coles states: 'There is an additional two weeks from 27th January to the 9th February 2021 to redeem your Knife Credits for MasterChef Knives, but only while stocks last; however, you can no longer earn Knife Credits during this period'.
