DEVELOPING: Arrest made in stabbing at Auto Central - KSNB Local 4

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - Grand Island Police have arrested a man for a stabbing that happened Monday afternoon at Auto Central.

Police reported to the scene shortly after 2 p.m. Once on scene, police spoke with the victim who refused to cooperate with them and initially refused medical attention for the wound. He was eventually transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

Multiple police cars could be seen in the area as officers searched for the suspect.

Captain Jim Duering said police located the suspect hiding in a crawl space at a residence a block east of Auto Central.

Thomas Franks, 24, of Grand Island, was arrested for felony 1st degree assault and use of a weapon to commit a felony. Police are also looking at Franks for an assault that happened last Thursday.

Captain Dureing said drugs are suspected to be a contributing factor in this investigation.

GIPD also did arrest one female while on site at Auto Central, but it was for an unrelated warrant for her arrest.

At this time, the investigation is open and ongoing.
