Diode makers stepping up sales promotion in emerging markets - Digitimes

Taiwan's diode makers are stepping up regional marketing deployments in China, India and other emerging markets, where electric vehicles (EV) and automotive electronics applications are growing rapidly, according to industry sources.

Diode makers including Taiwan Semiconductor, Panjit International, Actron Technology and Eris Technology have been keen to venture into the supply chains of peripheral automotive power components including AC-DC converters, low-loss MOSFETs, low-dropout voltage regulators, transient voltage surge suppressors (TVS), fast recovery diodes, and rectifier diodes for automotive alternators, the sources said.

Among them, Taiwan Semiconductor is actively extending its business tentacles to automotive electronics system makers in China, India, Russia and South America, where ever-increasing middle-class populations are driving the development of autos and other industrial sectors.

Company chairman Arthur Wang has recently noted that huge demand in China for automotive electronics, detection and testing instruments, industrial control systems and household electrical appliances have attracted more and more foreign vendors to enter the market there, which will be conducive to improving product mix and regional industry development.

Wang said his company has developed diverse specs of Hall-effect sensor and magnetic sensor chips solutions for auto, industry, home appliance and consumer electronics applications, and has also rolled out new trench Schottky rectifier, super junction MOSFET and SGT (split gate technology) MOSFET for passive and active safety applications in auto, telecom and energy industries.

Taiwan Semiconductor expects to ship 4.477 billion rectifier diodes, 1.227 billion small-signal diodes, and 196 million MOSFET chips in 2021, up 23%, 11.9% and 18.7%, respectively, from 2020.
