Borealis recently began offering several grades of resin made from virgin and post-consumer recycled materials for sale into the North American automotive market.

Austria-headquartered Borealis in late May announced the expansion of its PCR Borcycle product line, an “innovative polyolefin-based solution composed of both virgin and post-consumer recyclate.”

The company first developed the PCR Borcycle grades for the European market, and the expansion into North America is targeting the automotive sector.

“The Borcycle family of products have been conceived for interior, exterior and under-the-bonnet automotive applications and incorporate [PCR] for a lower environmental impact,” the company stated.

The PCR Borcycle line includes a resin made from 25% PCR, 55% virgin material and 20% talc filler, designed for car door and trunk claddings and trims. It also includes a 50% PCR, 30% virgin and 20% talc resin, and a 25% PCR, 45% virgin and 30% talc resin, both of which are designed for bumper components, exterior trims and more.

In a brochure on the product line, Borealis said the resin “supports OEMs in achieving their sustainability goals through the use of PCR in automotive parts.”
