Kelly issues statement on Congressional Auto Caucus Semiconductor Roundtable - Mike Kelly

Washington, D.C. – Today, the Congressional Auto Caucus Co-Chairs Representatives Mike Kelly (PA-16) and Marcy Kaptur (OH-09) released the following statement after hosting a semiconductor roundtable with U.S. auto industry leaders.

This week, Congressional Auto Caucus Co-Chairs Reps. Kaptur and Kelly hosted a roundtable with labor, manufacturing, and trade experts to discuss semiconductor availability. Attendees included Josh Nassar, Legislative Director for the United Autoworkers, Shilpan Amin, Vice President of Global Purchasing and Supply Chain for General Motors, David Isaacs, Vice President of Government Affairs for the Semiconductor Industry Association, and Alexander Perkins, Principal for Mehlman Castagnetti Rosen & Thomas.

The discussion focused on coordinated Congressional efforts to support the U.S. auto industry by strengthening domestic semiconductor production capabilities through passage of the CHIPS for America Act, which the Senate has incorporated into the United States Innovation and Competition Act (USICA). USICA is currently being negotiated in both the Senate and House.

“As an automobile dealer myself, I’ve seen the bottlenecked supply chain and semi-conductor chip shortage shrink our inventory and hurt the consumer,” said Rep. Kelly. “I’m proud to work with Rep. Kaptur and our Congressional Auto Caucus members to host today’s roundtable and ultimately find solutions to this ongoing problem.”

“The U.S. auto industry is a titan of the American economy,” said Rep. Kaptur. “Nearly a million hardworking men and women go to work every day manufacturing and assembling the world’s finest vehicles. As we emerge from global disruption wrought by the pandemic, our aim must not solely be to recover, but to rise up stronger than we were before. With the CHIPS Act as our blueprint, will unleash American innovation and be prepared for the future ahead.”
